Leong Jun Hao Stuns World No. 1, But Malaysia Fall 3–2 to Indonesia at Asian Games
Leong Jun Hao produced one of the biggest upsets of the men’s team badminton event at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, defeating world No. 1 Jonatan Christie — but Malaysia were unable to turn the result into an overall quarter-final victory against Indonesia.
Jun Hao battled back from a game down to defeat Jonatan 20–22, 21–12, 21–17, giving Malaysia an early 1–0 lead in the tie.
Indonesia responded through Fajar Alfian-Shohibul Fikri, who beat Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin, before Alwi Farhan edged Justin Hoh to put Malaysia behind 2–1.
Malaysia stayed alive when Aaron Chia-Tee Kai Wun came from behind to beat Leo Rolly-Daniel Marthin, forcing the tie into a deciding fifth match.
However, Eogene Ewe was unable to complete the comeback, falling to Moh Zaki Ubaidillah as Indonesia secured a 3–2 victory and a place in the semi-finals.
Despite the defeat, Jun Hao’s win over the world No. 1 gave Malaysia a major bright spot in a hard-fought quarter-final battle.
