A Glimpse into the Future: MotoGP Stars Make 850cc Debut at Brno Test
MotoGP’s highly anticipated transition to the 850cc era took a significant step forward as top riders tested the new Pirelli-equipped prototype machines for the first time at the Brno circuit. The private test delivered blazing lap times, alongside a few dramatic crashes as riders pushed the new bikes to their limits.
Reigning MotoGP champion Marc Márquez was among the stars testing Ducati’s new 850cc Desmosedici on Monday. In a massive development just 24 hours later, Ducati officially announced that Márquez has committed to staying with the Italian manufacturer for the next two seasons. This comes as a pleasant surprise to many, as the Spanish rider originally sought only a one-year deal, suggesting his satisfaction with the new prototype played a major role in his decision.
Márquez’s test session wasn’t without drama, as he suffered a low-side crash at Turn 1 before leaving the Czech circuit early to head to Assen. Despite the fall, he expressed satisfaction with the progress made. KTM’s Pol Espargaro was the only other faller during the session, surviving a nasty highside exiting the first corner. While he escaped without serious injury, his 850cc machine sustained significant damage.
The exclusive testing session featured a star-studded lineup across all manufacturers. The complete list of other notable participants includes:
- Fermin Aldeguer testing alongside Márquez for Ducati.
- Luca Marini and Joan Mir representing Honda.
- Marco Bezzecchi and Raul Fernandez riding the Aprilia prototypes.
- Dani Pedrosa providing crucial data for KTM.
- Toprak Razgatlıoğlu and Augusto Fernandez making their 850cc debuts for Yamaha.
