Malaysian men’s singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong has officially announced his departure from the national team, embarking on a new journey as an independent professional player. The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) confirmed that the shuttler’s exit will take effect on June 30, following a mutual agreement between both parties to part ways.

Tze Yong’s tenure with the national setup has been marked by brilliant flashes of world-class potential, unfortunately hampered by a frustrating series of injuries in recent years. Recognizing the need for a change of pace and an intensive focus on his physical health, both the shuttler and BAM concluded that this transition is the best step forward for his career.

BAM President Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz paid a heartfelt tribute to the shuttler, praising his immense resilience and past contributions to the sport. “Tze Yong has been an important member of the national team and has represented Malaysia with pride on the international stage,” Zafrul stated. “While injuries unfortunately disrupted his progress in recent years, his resilience throughout the rehabilitation process has been commendable. We wish him good health and continued success in his future endeavours.”

Expressing deep gratitude to BAM, his coaches, teammates, and the support staff who guided his journey, Tze Yong emphasized that his immediate priority is not rushing back to competition, but rather securing a full recovery. “Representing Malaysia has always been an honour,” he shared. “I will take some time away from competition to focus on my rehabilitation before returning to the court, and I look forward to the next chapter of my career.”
