Coaching Shake-Up Looms for Malaysian Independent Doubles Squad
Speculation is mounting over potential coaching changes for the independent badminton doubles squad based in Sri Petaling, leaving fans wondering if head coach Teo Kok Siang’s tenure with the top professionals is coming to an end.
When questioned on Thursday about whether a new coach would be brought in to guide the world No. 7 men’s doubles pair, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, Kok Siang remained notably tight-lipped. “I have no comment. Just wait and see,” he stated following the squad’s training session. This cryptic response has only fueled rumors that he may be stepping down from his role with the elite duo.
Kok Siang took the reins of the independent set-up in January 2023, stepping in after Rosman Razak made his return to the national team. He currently leads the training camp with the assistance of coach Ameer Amri Zainuddin and physiotherapist Aela Syamira Jamaal Shaaban.
The Sri Petaling camp serves as the primary training ground for several of the nation’s top independent pairs, all of whom are currently gearing up for the highly anticipated Japan Open scheduled for July 14 to 19. Alongside Sze Fei and Izzuddin, the impressive camp roster includes:
- Mixed Doubles: Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie
- Mixed Doubles: Hoo Pang Ron and Lai Pei Jing
- Men’s Doubles: Teo Ee Yi and Chia Wei Jie
- Men’s Doubles: Low Han Yee and Ng Eng Cheong
- Men’s Doubles: Lwi Sheng Hao and Boon Xin Yuan
- Men’s Doubles Veteran: Goh V Shem
