Day to Forget at Macau Open: Malaysian Shuttlers Suffer Semi-Final Sweep
It was a highly disappointing day for Malaysian badminton at the Macau Open, as all five of the nation’s representatives suffered straight-game defeats in the semi-finals of the World Tour Super 300 tournament.
Despite promising performances in the quarter-finals, the momentum came to a sudden halt. In the men’s doubles, Low Hang Yee and Ng Eng Cheong fell to Indonesia’s Ali Faathir Rayhan and Devin Arthas Wahyudi, while Chia Wei Jie and Teo Ee Yi were heavily defeated by South Korea’s Jin Yong and Lee Jong Min in under 30 minutes.
The struggles continued across other categories. Men’s singles prospect Eogene Ewe put up a fight but ultimately could not overcome China’s Hu Zhe An, losing 15-21, 18-21. Meanwhile, the women’s doubles pair of Ong Xin Yee and Carmen Ting went down to China’s Cao Zi Han and Bao Li Jing.
Adding to the heartbreak, the national mixed doubles duo of Hoo Pang Ron and Lai Pei Jing were swiftly outclassed by South Korea’s Cho Song Hyun and Jeong Na Eun, bringing an abrupt end to Malaysia’s campaign in Macau.
