The all-electric Formula E championship is set to revolutionize its race weekends for the upcoming 2026-27 Gen 4 era, introducing a thrilling new “ePrix unleashed” format inspired by the popular sprint races seen in Formula One and MotoGP.

Implemented specifically during double-header weekends, the “ePrix unleashed” format will feature one race that is approximately 10 minutes shorter than the standard event. Unlike Formula One’s sprint races, which are roughly one-third of a full Grand Prix distance, this Formula E variation maintains a highly strategic, longer duration, keeping in mind that standard ePrix races typically last 45 minutes plus one lap.

In addition to the format changes, the Liberty Global-owned championship is expanding its footprint to include iconic, traditional racing venues. Motorsport fans can look forward to seeing the advanced electric single-seaters tackle Brands Hatch in southern England, Zandvoort in the Netherlands, and the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

The dawn of the Gen 4 era will also boast the most extensive calendar in the sport’s history, featuring a record-breaking 21 races spread across 13 global cities. Adding to the visual spectacle, the season will perfectly bookend with spectacular night races, kicking off in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on December 18 and 19, 2026, and culminating with the season finale in Tokyo, Japan on July 24 and 25, 2027.
