Argentina forward Julian Alvarez has publicly declared his intention to leave Atletico Madrid, expressing a desire to “fulfil his dream,” which is widely understood to be a transfer to Barcelona. The 26-year-old striker made his intentions clear following Argentina’s 2-0 World Cup victory over Austria.

While Arsenal has also shown interest in the forward, Alvarez’s preference is reportedly to join Barcelona, who have been pursuing him throughout the summer. However, Atletico Madrid remains firm in their stance against selling their star player. The club has been digging their heels in, pointing to his massive £431m (€500m) release clause.

The transfer saga has strained relations between the Spanish clubs, especially after Atletico mocked Barcelona’s earlier attempts to sign him. Real Madrid also saw a £129m bid rejected earlier this month, further complicating the landscape. Alvarez, who is under contract until 2030 following his £81m move from Manchester City in 2024, acknowledged that the timeline for his departure remains unresolved, though he emphasized the need to be honest about his aspirations.
