Lakshya Sen Returns to Lead Indian Charge at US Open 2026
Lakshya Sen is set to return and lead the Indian badminton contingent at the US Open 2026, which kicks off in California this Tuesday. The Paris 2024 Olympics semi-finalist is back in action after skipping the Australian and Macau Opens, having last competed at the Indonesia Open in early June.
Currently ranked 14th in the world, Lakshya enters the BWF Super 300 tournament as the second seed in the men’s singles draw, trailing only Chinese Taipei’s world No. 6 Chou Tien-chen. Fellow Indian and former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth will join the campaign as the third seed. Meanwhile, defending champion Ayush Shetty and former titleholder HS Prannoy have opted to skip this year’s meet.
With PV Sindhu also absent, the women’s singles challenge will be spearheaded by a promising young squad, including Anmol Kharb, Tanvi Sharma, and Aakarshi Kashyap. In the women’s doubles, Commonwealth Games medallists Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will carry India’s hopes, returning to the court following Treesa’s recent three-month injury rehabilitation.
India will not feature any entries in the men’s doubles draw, as Asian Games champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty remain sidelined while Satwik recovers from an injury sustained earlier this month. The mixed doubles category will see Dhruv Rawat and Maneesha K as the sole Indian pair in action.
Indian fans can catch the live streaming of the US Open 2026 matches on the BWF TV YouTube channel. Stay tuned to o9news for more international badminton updates and comprehensive tournament coverage!
