Mental Power Lands Chong Lee Qian Elite Juniors Title in BAM Sweep
Mental toughness proved to be the decisive factor for Chong Lee Qian as he captured the boys’ Under-16 singles title at the Junior Elite Tour Finals. The young shuttler overcame early pressure to defeat national teammate Ng Hao Tong 18-21, 21-8, 21-11 in a grueling hour-long battle at Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara.
Reflecting on his first national title of the year, Lee Qian credited his victory to staying composed and focusing on each rally rather than dwelling on the scoreline. His bravery on the court and mental resilience allowed him to bounce back strongly after dropping the opening set.
In the girls’ Under-16 singles final, BAM’s Mirza Batrisyia Aghnia Nazri was also pushed to the distance. She successfully edged out her teammate Chua Jing Xuan in a tense 21-12, 14-21, 21-16 match to claim the championship crown.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) completed a dominant sweep in the doubles categories as well. Teoh Chong Yee and Tze Han Wong secured the boys’ Under-16 doubles title with a swift 21-7, 21-14 win over Selangor’s Max Foo Jin Tao and Yong Kiat Song. Meanwhile, Leong Hwee Ling and Teoh Min Yi triumphed in the girls’ Under-16 doubles final, comfortably defeating Putrajaya’s Iffah Husna Mohd Nasir Nur and Safia Mohd Ishraf Nuha 21-13, 21-10.
