Malaysia experienced a disappointing end to their Macau Open campaign, as all remaining national shuttlers bowed out in the semi-finals. The biggest shock of the day came when the second-seeded women’s doubles pair of Carmen Ting and Ong Xin Yee were unexpectedly defeated by China’s Bao Lijing and Cao Zihan 18-21, 13-21.

In the men’s singles, Eogene Ewe’s stellar tournament run was halted by China’s Hu Zhean. Despite putting up a strong fight, the world No. 80 fell 15-21, 18-21, concluding a commendable campaign that included an impressive quarter-final victory over Singapore’s second seed, Jason Teh.

The newly formed mixed doubles duo of Hoo Pang Ron and Lai Pei Jing also fell short of the finals, going down 11-21, 22-24 in a tough battle against China’s formidable world No. 2 pair, Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin.

Malaysia’s men’s doubles pairs faced similar heartbreak. Low Hang Yee and Ng Eng Cheong were swiftly defeated 12-21, 12-21 by Indonesian fourth seeds Ali Faathir and Devin Artha in just 33 minutes. Meanwhile, Chia Weijie and Teo Ee Yi were eliminated after a 4-21, 11-21 loss to Jin Yong and Lee Jong-min.
