Thirteen refugee children from Myanmar, studying at the Agape Learning Centre in Selangor, recently enjoyed a day of badminton in Petaling Jaya. The Shuttle Time session, held on May 16, 2026, was organized ahead of World Refugee Day on June 20 to provide the youth with outdoor activities and a sense of inclusion.

Delivered by four certified BWF Shuttle Time coaches, the event introduced children aged 13 to 17 to the basics of the sport in a relaxed and accessible setting. Participants learned essential skills such as holding a racket, serving, and controlling the shuttle, which they then practiced through simple drills and rallies. For many of these youths, it was their first experience trying badminton and receiving guidance from certified coaches.

Pastor Daniel Kham Siam Muang, a leader at the Agape Learning Centre, emphasized the importance of such opportunities for children facing uncertain lives, noting that sports help improve their mental wellbeing, cognitive function, and confidence. The initiative successfully fostered joy and friendship among the participants, with youths like 13-year-old Zo and 12-year-old Philip expressing their excitement and eagerness to play the sport again.
