Brazil to Host BWF Para Badminton World Championships 2028
The Badminton World Federation has officially awarded the hosting rights for the BWF Para Badminton World Championships 2028 to Brazil. The prestigious tournament will take place in São Paulo from February 14 to 20, marking the first time the event is held in the country.
Positioned just six months before the LA28 Paralympic Games, the championships will serve as a critical milestone and a world-class preparation platform for competing athletes. Badminton Brazil President José Roberto Santini Campos expressed immense pride, noting that this selection is a powerful testament to the BWF’s confidence and the sport’s exponential growth across the Americas.
Alongside the hosting announcement, the BWF released the international Para badminton calendar for 2027 and early 2028. The schedule is carefully designed to align with the LA28 Paralympics qualification pathway, featuring a structured series of tournaments and increased opportunities for world ranking progression across all five continents.
The crucial “Race to Los Angeles Paralympic Ranking” period is set to run from April 5, 2027, to April 2, 2028. During this window, athletes will compete for vital ranking points to secure one of the 120 available Para badminton qualification spots for the upcoming Paralympic Games.
